Plain fun.Tree Star FlowJo V7 6 3 -trmdsf. There is one more thing: since bandstand is up we suddenly have spontaneous karaoke sessions in the studio  I have setup my SM58 again permanently with some compressor and reverb to be ready for that. It is just PRODUCTIVE to have it that way. Use a drum VSTi, record real guitars, replace the strings with hq samples and so on. It takes less than 2 minutes to setup a playback for voice-overs which is acceptable for the singer.Īnd if the performance was great and you like to refine you might want to substitute some of the bandstand tracks. Say you want to make a cover tune and you have the GM MIDI file. When there ARE NO 1000 knobs to change a sound in bandstand you CANNOT waste your time with knob-fiddling :) Cuase after 15 mins of searching your basic song "picture" might have vanished. It avoids the "find the best plugin for that track"-disease. You can lay down OK-sounding arrangements extremely quickly and come to the point where you have fun with your voice overs. There have been chosen because they all go together fairly well in an arranmgement without the need for extensive EQing and such. None of the sounds will impress you too much when played solo. The "trick" of bandstand is the sound selection. And like a real piano or organ you can play chords and stuff. All the instruments you need in parallel (up to 16). I'm getting Native Instruments Bandstand.

So I usually use Kontakt 2 to play the Bandstand presets because it gives loads more flexibility. Unfortunately, as far as I’m aware, you can't set up separate effects on the individual drum kit pieces within Bandstand so you have to treat the kit as a whole.Įxtra (possibly not relevant) information: I happened to get a good deal on Kontakt 2 a few months back and found that it will play the Bandstand presets.

Plus it includes its own effects such as chorus/flanger, reverb, EQ and limiter, which you can apply separately to each instrument. But it would cost a fortune to cover the range of instruments in Bandstand with specific VSTi’s.Īlthough Bandstand has only got stereo outputs, it does include its own mixer with volume and pan on each instrument. For example, I ended up replacing many of the Bandstand sounds in my tracks using Garritan Personal Orchestra for orchestral sounds, Trilogy or Broomstick bass for bass and Addictive Drums for drums. There are VSTi’s that focus on a more limited range of instruments that possibly give better sounds than Bandstand. I found it very useful when I started creating backing tracks in Reaper from midi files. As stupeT says, you can use the Reaper virtual keyboard or the midi editor if you want to enter notes, so the keyboard in Bandstand isn’t giving you anything extra in that area.Īs far as I can see, the only real reason for getting Bandstand is for the sounds and below are my thoughts on that.īandstand is a good all rounder and does a reasonable job for all the General Midi sounds. I’m curious about why you’re comparing Bandstand to a controller, because they’re completely different things. I've considered getting an Edirol PCR controller, but I want really simple gear. I haven’t had cause to use the standalone version, so I can’t comment on that.

I've got a Vista operating system and the VSTi version of NI Bandstand works fine in Reaper. Is it compatible with Vista or does it work well with Vista?
